So me and a couple of friends have planned a road trip in Japan in September, starting in Sapporo on the 14th and then aiming to be in Tokyo by the 24th/25th. Our general outline is to spend a couple of days in Hokkaido, ferry or train over to Honshu, drive along the Sanriku coast and go through Sendai, Aizuwakamatsu and Nikko before arriving in Tokyo. We're still open to changing it, so my question is whether there are any things/places/events people would recommend seeing along the way? Whether it's a particular stop to make along the way, an event that happens to be on and around one of the places or not too far away, or anything else that comes to mind? We've got some of the top things on our lists of course (Noboribetsu, Matsushima, etc) but we're open to any and all suggestions.
