Hi everyone! I’m planning a September trip to Eastern Hokkaido and would love your feedback and any recommendations, especially on good, budget-friendly places to eat along the way.
Our plan:
• 14 Sept: Flight Osaka → Kushiro, drive to Utoro. Staying at Kitakobushi Shiretoko Hotel. Visit Kamuiwakka Hot Falls.
• 15 Sept: Morning at Shiretoko Goko (Five Lakes), then drive (~3 hrs) to Tsubetsu. Staying at Okukussharo Onsen YellowLamp Inn for 3 nights.
• 16 Sept: Lake Mashu observatories, Teshikaga ramen stop, Wakoto Peninsula nature trail, Sunayu footbath, Tsubetsu Pass sunset.
• 17 Sept: Day trip to Lake Akan and Lake Onnetō, plus Onnetō Hot Falls. Possibly Mt. Meakan hike if weather allows.
• 18 Sept: Drive back to Kushiro, Washo Market for kattedon lunch, flight to Tokyo.
Looking for:
• Budget-friendly, local food spots (ramen, seafood, venison, etc.)
• Any hidden gems or short hikes we might be missing in these areas.
• Must-try specialties along this route.
