I didn't spend a lot of time abroad so I don't know if this is a universal thing but when I was in elementary and middle school in Japan I noticed that male teachers often gave much more attention and preference to girls. They would spend extra time talking with them, laugh at their comments, and sometimes ignore boys who were trying to speak up.
One memory that stuck with me was when I tried to report a bullying incident during an after school activity. The teacher brushed me off almost immediately and instead sat on the desk and proceeded to talk to the three girls, focusing only to them. It was not just that moment. The overall pattern I saw was teachers treating girls with warmth and boys with indifference.
Later, when I switched to an international school for high school, I never saw anything like that. The treatment felt more balanced.
I am curious if anyone else heard of this kind of behavior or ones who went through Japanese schools noticed this dynamic or if it was just my particular teachers and environment. Maybe this could tie into why there's so many Japanese teacher turn out to be perverts.
