Hello!
I’m hoping to get some advice/feedback on the HSP visa, getting PR and IT in Japan.
I’ve worked in cybersecurity for 11+ years now, have my bachelors and masters in cyber and my Sec+ and CISSP and using a calculator I seem to score 80+ points for the HSP visa for 1 year PR.
I’ve always wanted to move to Japan and been there 5+ times visiting but I want to do it the right way. I’m hoping I’ve set myself up ok? The one area I need to improve for sure is my Japanese language ability, I can hold simple conversations but that’s about it.
I guess my questions are:
* What’s the IT/Cyber job market there like? Where do you look for jobs? Recommended companies?
* I work for DoD but need to work a Japanese based company for HSP visa/ PR is that correct? I can move there with a DoD company but that won’t count towards PR.
* What’s the work/life balance? I’m nervous about this haha
* Has anyone applied and gotten PR using the HSP visa after 1 year? Any tips?
* I’m upper beginner in Japanese (intermediate Chinese) so I need to work on that, is that a limitation for me in IT/cyber?
Thanks so much!! I’d love to hear of anyone else has gone this route and had success, and any recommendations on where I can improve!

You need a company with a legal presence in Japan to hire you through their Japanese entity.
