Drivers license in Tokyo

I’m considering finally getting my drivers license, but would love to hear if someone has any stories/experience to share.

I live in Suginami, Tokyo and have never had a license before. I have done some driving before when I considered getting one, but that’s a long time ago and not at all much really.

I know I don’t really need one to live in Tokyo but still would like one (for potential adventures and potential future inaka move).

I’ve done some researching but if someone has any experiences I’d love to hear about how it was, the procedure etc. 🙂
