
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the temperature in Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, reached 41.2 degrees Celsius at 1:09 PM on the 5th. This matches the highest temperature ever recorded in Japan, set in Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture, on July 30.
In Tokyo, the temperature reached 36.6 degrees Celsius at 11:12 AM, marking the fourth consecutive day of temperatures exceeding 35 degrees, known as a “midsummer day.”
Other areas were also experiencing intense heat, with forecasted highs of 41 degrees in Maebashi City, 40 degrees in Kumagaya City, and 39 degrees in Mito City, Saitama City, Kofu City, Odawara City, and Toyooka City. Tokyo was expected to reach a high of 37 degrees.
Given the extreme temperatures, the Japan Meteorological Agency and the Ministry of the Environment issued heatstroke alerts for 44 prefectures, excluding Hokkaido, Akita Prefecture, and Kochi Prefecture. They urged people to stay in cool environments using air conditioning and to take regular breaks, as well as to stay hydrated and maintain salt intake.
