Resident Registration Timelines when moving to a hostel first?

Hi everyone.

In October, I will finally be able to move to Japan. Very excited about that!
Currently, though, I'm getting a little anxious cause I've not found a good place to stay at yet.
There is one place that popped up that looks very nice and would be very conveniently located, but I could only move in exactly 14 days after landing. (That move in date is a Sunday, too, so no way I could register ON that day either.)

The way I understood it, I could in theory go to a hostel for 2 weeks, register the hostel as my temporary residence (?) and then move to my apartment, and register again with my now-proper address.

Is that correct? Or could I skip the hostel-registration as it isn't a permanent residence? Would a hostel even let me register?

How much of a hassle would this process be? Could I start my process on getting e.g. a phone plan and a bank account within these two hostel-weeks, or would that screw me over shortly after?
