In Daito City, Osaka, a Sunday morning market offering authentic Chinese food and ingredients has become a popular spot for many local Chinese residents. However, the area is experiencing widespread illegal activities, attracting police intervention.
Illegal street vendors have become a significant issue, with residents expressing frustration over the noise and disruption. Nearby business owners have faced hostile reactions when addressing these concerns. Many cars are parked illegally, taking up a full lane of a two-lane road, due to a lack of parking options. Some visitors even use unrelated business parking lots without permission.
Despite the market’s popularity within the local Chinese community, it has led to these issues. Police regularly patrol the area, prompting vehicles and street vendors to quickly disappear. Signs prohibiting illegal stalls are often ignored, and vendors typically pack up only when police arrive.
The market organizers, Karyu Shokuhin, claim that these activities are the responsibility of individuals, not the market itself. They acknowledge the parking issues but have no specific plans to address them.
To coexist better with the community, it is essential for those involved to adhere to the rules and regulations.
