Seeking help for October 2026 Planning (1st time visiting Japan)

We (2 adults and one 9 year old) are planning our visit to Japan probably in October 2026 (between 16 Oct – 9 Nov 2026). Wife and I absolutely LOVE Japan even before visiting it and we wish we could explore for weeks together.

The number of days for our trip is not yet decided as we are overwhelmed with choices and options. I intend to book tickets probably this October (airmile redemption) so want to freeze on the onward and return dates by then. Note: Only Japan Airlines (JAL) flies direct from my city and to Tokyo only. If I have to fly to Osaka/other cities, I have to take ANA from another city in my country. So in all probability, our onward and return flights will be Tokyo.

Seeking help from folks here on a very rough plan for a trip of around 15 – 22 days based on following pointers: 1. We are opting October mainly wife wants to see fall leaves/autmun colours and also we are hoping it will be less crowded than April/May season.

Our dates are based on our kid's school schedule so it HAS to be between 16 Oct – 9 Nov 2026.

Our kid LOVES star wars, roller coaster/theme park rides, LEGO and books.

Wife LOVES Studio Ghibli productions, fall/autumn colours, cozy cafes, nick-nack shops, just casual walking alogn streets admiring shops and such.

I just want less crowded stuff and want to absorb Japan. I love public infrastructure (Metro/underground trains), Whisky, beer.

We are lacto-ovo-vegetarians (we are ok with eggs, egg based dishes but do not eat any seafood, meat or meat based dishes).

We are considering Legoland Nagoya. We are yet undecided on Universal Studios, Disneysea. Not so interested in Disneyworld if there are no rides

So any help in getting a basic outline of how many days to spend in different cities (Land in Tokyo & depart from Tokyo) for 15-22 days will be very helpful. Thank you!
