I’ll be traveling to Japan with my partner for 16 days in December. We are planning a few nights in Nagano between Tokyo and Kyoto. I’ve already planned the first night—monkey park in the morning followed by onsen time at Kokuya Ryokan Shibu Onsen. We’d like to go to Togakushi shrine the following day, but I’m wary of some of the logistics. Based on when we would finish breakfast and check out of our Ryokan, travel back to Nagano, and take the bus to Togakushi, we would likely not be getting there until 1pm. I’m wondering if anyone has done the hike from the bus stop to the cedar promenade in Winter, and about how long it takes. Is it feasible to do the hike, along with maybe grabbing some soba, before dark? Any general advice for this hike? We’re Minnesotan, so we’re aware of how to prepare for a winter hike.
