Hi, I’m planning to go to Katakai to watch the fireworks festival this September.
My husband and I have rented a car and are planning to park at Ojiya and walk over. But we have a few questions that we are hoping people who’ve attended before can advise us on:
1/ What’s the best time to reach Katakai?
I saw there are events in the afternoon as well… but what time should we reach to reserve a spot?
2/ Are there any spots that we can put our picnic mat and watch the fireworks? Unfortunately, we weren’t able to buy tickets, but we would really love to chill at a spot and wait for the fireworks.
We’ve checked a few blog posts where they said the elementary school is the best free viewing spot. But I’m not sure if we can leave our picnic mat there for the day to explore the street food and festival?
3/ What time does the on the day tickets usually sell out?
We don’t mind coming slightly earlier but since we are driving in… this may be difficult as well…
4/ What’s the toilet situation like?
Really appreciate any advice on this/ anyone who can share their experience on the matsuri
