I’m going to Japan solo with two kids, so I need to be prepared for potential emergencies.
In case anyone doesn’t know, in Japan you dial:
- 119 for Ambulance and Fire
- 110 for Police
I’ve read that they have some translators available for non-Japanese speakers, but that it takes time – and you don’t want to lose time in an emergency. So, has any of you called the emergency line in Japan and spoke English? How did it go? I’m planning to write down some basic sentences in Japanese I could use just in case, but I’d obviously prefer to be able to communicate in English.
ETA: I forgot to ask – does anyone know whether the emergency dispatchers will see my location if I call from a foreign mobile phone with a foreign SIM or an Ubigi eSIM? Here in Europe mobile operators are required to transmit your location to emergency services when we dial the emergency line, regardless of SIM origin.
