It resembles a nuclear explosion, followed by the darkness and cold of the ensuing winter. But rather than what could happen, this is a depiction of what is inevitable — the future eruption of Mount Fuji, and the disastrous consequences for Tokyo.
The Japanese authorities have released computer-generated videos depicting the eruption of the sacred mountain and the devastating effect it could have on one of the most densely populated areas in the world. They are a reminder of what even disaster-conscious Japanese find easy to forget — that the world’s largest city is within range of a large and highly active volcano

The eruption of Mt Fuji will be as a geopolitical event as a geographical one. The world was kind in 2013, but it’s not kind now.
Boring. What are they trying to sell? Volcanos are heavily monitored, so there would be _plenty of fucking warnings_ before this event happens 🙄
Is that all? Where can we watch the rest of the video?
School’s out, work’s out, but it’s pointless without the internet, SIGH.
>This video uses Generative AI
Yeah, nope. Already not gonna take it seriously.
As someone that lived in Kagoshima and saw Sakurajima spew out ash daily and it actually erupting. It isn’t as drastic how this AI vid portrays it.
It’s an inconvenience at that distance at best.
“This video uses generative AI to drain a small lake, farm 20,000 people’s creative work, and apply a shitty grey filter to images of Tokyo.”
I’m pretty sure that shot of Mount Fuji erupting in the distance has the mountain about 1000 times bigger than it really is. I can see mt Fuji from my place in Tokyo, and it certainly doesn’t take up half the skyline.
booo ai slop

Will I get a day off work?
Bro needed AI to apply a greyscale filter
AI crap…. Fuji erupts slowly like the Hawaiian Volcano’s it’s called an.effusive eruption.
The real nightmare is the shitty AI
Why was this made? For what purpose?
Why is everyone always so angry and neurotic in these Japan threads? I’ll probably get a million downvotes. Where do the chill expats hang on Reddit? It’s just a government public service message trying to be helpful, so they used a little ai, so the pictures are not 100% accurate, so they didn’t try to stuff every bit of information in a short video meant to circulate on social media. Chill out guys… it’s a low budget video that will probably help a lot of people who didn’t have a clue about something like this beforehand.
I could have sworn that an actual eruption from mount Fuji would be way worse than just some toxic ash and chemicals. I could have sworn that it would destroy surrounding areas like Mt st Helen.
Kagoshima manages to hang in there alright…
Thought it was Dragon Head live-action trailer. Disappointing.
(Though this was meant for awareness PSA, i know.)

I lived in Kyushu for a good few years and we had volcanos erupt, it stinks and the sky is blocked just like that.
I am not worried about Mount Fuji though more chance of being run over.
Is this the full video? It seems to cut short somewhat.
I’ll be near Mt Fuji in a few weeks. So, duck and cover? Hide in the bushes? What’s the best strategy for an apocalyptic eruption?
I’m sure I’ll still be expected to do my best to get to work.
Need a clip that shows where you message and apologize to ur kachou you can’t come in to work today
If people are that unhappy with an AI video 内閣府 released a [CG one](https://youtu.be/2tYpUXiw4-0?si=XHHSn69TJ-HXmomJ) around the same time with similar info although unsurprisingly focused on a larger zone of impact
Mt Fuji is pretty far away.
What a moronic PSA. Japanese society is deliberately suppressing human values, yet imaginary natural disasters are apparently what we need to snap out of our coma. Nothing real is relevant anymore.
Odakyu line better be working!!
what is with the fear porn in Japan these days?
I blame the Tokugawa shogunate for forcing it as the capital onto everyone.
The risks of living in Tokyo really are not worth it. I prefer the peaceful countryside way up north.
