Hello, I’ve been living in Japan since March 2024 on a dependent visa. My husband works, and I stay at home. My Japanese level is around N4. I’m not enrolled in any 日本語学校 because most language schools require full-day attendance, while I have a child in 幼稚園 who needs me to drop her off and pick her up. The schedule just doesn’t match.
Still, I study Japanese by myself every day at home, and I’ve already registered for the JLPT this December. In my first year, I relied on my husband a lot because of the language barrier. But in 2025, I really want to be more independent — like going to the bank, dentist, and managing daily tasks without depending on him.
I have the 勇気 to try, but here’s my question: if I go to a bank like JP Bank to open an account for my kids with only broken Japanese and a translation app, will the staff still accept me? Will they be patient with me? I’m ready to challenge myself, but I worry I might just become a burden for the staff.
So, what do you usually manage to do with broken Japanese in daily life?
