Hi everyone,
Me and a friend are flying to Saigon soon and have about a 9-hour layover in Tokyo. We land at Narita around 4 PM, but our next flight leaves from Haneda at 1:30 AM.
This is our first time traveling internationally and we both don’t travel often, so we had some questions to ask for people who have had a similar experience 🙂
• Immigration at Narita – How smooth was the process for you? About how long should we expect it to take before we’re out of the airport with our bags? Any way to speed up the process, or anything we should know about the immigration process in general?
• Getting Around – For going back and forth, I’m assuming we’ll be using the train/monorail the whole time. Do you recommend getting a Suica card, or is it fine to just use cash for tickets? Also, should we exchange our money from USD → yen once we arrive in Japan, or is it better to do it in the US before leaving?
• Connectivity – Since we’ll only be in Japan for a few hours, is it worth getting an eSIM/pocket WiFi, or would offline maps be fine? What is your recommendation!
• Narita → Haneda – What’s the easiest/most reliable way to get from Narita Airport to Haneda Airport, and how do we get there/find it lol!
• Sightseeing – We’re hoping to go to Shibuya for a little bit of time. Is it possible to go to another area if time allows it? Is it even realistic to go to Shibuya? We plan to stop by the Haneda Airport first to drop off our luggage at those Luggage storage lockers.
• Heading Back – Our flight leaves Haneda at 1:30 AM. What’s a good time to leave Shibuya (or possible other location) to make sure we get to Haneda, check in, and clear security without stress of missing our flight? (We know there are some stores at the airport, so we are happy with coming back a couple hours early), what train should we use?
Sorry for all the questions! We both prefer to excessively plan and have details :’) Thank you all for the help
