On August 1, Taro Aso, senior advisor to the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), said at an Aso faction meeting that after the big loss in the recent Upper House election, the party’s next goal must be to win the Lower House election and regain seats there. He stressed the need to prepare a system that can secure victory.
Also, on July 23, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met with three former prime ministers, including Aso. According to sources, Aso told Ishiba that it’s clear the LDP under Ishiba’s leadership can’t win elections, and urged the prime minister to take action.
