Japan, in particular, maintains amicable relations with the U.S. and strong economic ties with China. Japan is thus in a position to be supplied with graphic processing units (GPUs) — the electronic chips indispensable to the development of AI — from the U.S., while there are many excellent Chinese engineering graduates from the University of Tokyo and other top-notch Japanese universities who are willing to work in Japan.
