Since I(30 M) find myself between jobs right now I have been thinking more and more of trying to live abroad for a year or two(I am from USA). Japan has been obviously one of the places I been thinking about(the other is South Korea) but rather than be too starry eyed about it I want mull on the practicalities of it.
People who moved here for a software role(I have a CS degree from a well known school, at least in the US) and about 9 years of experience working for more well known tech companies in NYC) what was it like in terms of work life balance(I am very aware of the Japanese work environment and only having two weeks of vacation to start), day-to-day work and the like.
I've applied to places like PayPay(who did send me a code thing to do) and what not saying Japanese fluency isn't a huge deal but how limited am I having very low Japanese Skill either for jobs or day to day life(I took two years in uni but use it or lose it) but of course willing to put in the time to learn before going.
Monetarily I am fine with taking a paycut for a Japan role since the experience alone of trying to live in another country is good enough for me but I don't see myself in Japan forever. People who moved backed how hard was it to find another job after a stint in Japan
