Getting packages not for me

Every couple of weeks it seems, I am getting packages delivered to my address that are not for me. I moved into the apartment back in January and I had the occasional one every now and then.

I assumed it was the previous tenant who hadn’t yet updated their address. Fortunately everything so far has required a signature, so I haven’t stumbled on a delivery left at the property… yet.

I once received the tracking id for a package and later saw that it was redelivered elsewhere (to the intended recipient I hope) online so I thought that would resolve the issue.

The main problem here is that it keeps happening. I would have thought the recipient would have fixed their address by now, but I keep needing to tell delivery drivers that it’s not for me even while they insist it’s my address, and I never remember the name of the recipient because I only get to look at it for a couple seconds.

But I swear once I read a foreign sounding name in Katakana rather than the kanji I normally read. Which has me very confused…

It’s only a mildly annoying problem. But what might I be able to do to stop this? Calling up every single delivery service in Japan seems like a hassle… maybe I should ask the building owner if they can contact the prior tenant (I don’t even know if it’s them)?
