Hey all! I am currently trying to process a refund through Mercari customer service because I received a counterfeit item. After the seller refused to refund, I submitted the request two days ago and this morning I got an email saying that they accepted it and I need to mail in the item to their center. No problem. I have read pretty much all the posts in this sub and other Japan subs about this process and I’m not really concerned about it.
But, shortly after I got the message that Mercari and accepted my request, the seller canceled the item. Mercari was pretty clear to me that I wasn’t supposed to rate the item, or otherwise close the transaction, or it would mess up the return.
Does anybody know what I am supposed to do? In my mind, there are three options: 1, I ignore it and hope it doesn’t affect anything, 2, I hit reject on the cancellation, or 3, I hit agree on the cancellation. I sent a follow up message to the Mercari customer service, but I haven’t heard back yet. They’ve been slow to respond with me in the past and usually I don’t mind but I’m worried because of the notification about the cancellation it says that in 24 hours it will automatically agree to the cancellation.
Another thing that occurred to me, is that possibly this is a good thing, and it means that the item will be automatically refunded from the seller’s end. But the way they’ve been talking to me, makes me think that they wouldn’t do anything that would give me a refund. They have flat out stated that they would not refund me. But maybe they came to their senses? I don’t know if a cancellation automatically refunds the product. Because I’ve never had anything somewhere happen before.
This item was not a small amount of money. I’m just worried that something will happen to make me unable to get the money back.
Any ideas?
