25yo – need advice on what to do with a large sum in Japan

Hey everyone!

I’m 25 and I moved to Japan (Tokyo) last year when I was 24, right after finishing my master’s. I started working in IT here, so I only have about a year of work experience so far. I enjoy it here and I’m planning to stay long term. Coming from a third world country, deciding to settle in Japan wasn’t a difficult decision to be honest lol.

The thing is I recently came into about 50–55 million yen (family-related, I’d rather not get into too many details). And I honestly don’t know what to do.

Since I only moved here a year ago, I’ll probably change apartments at some point, so buying a house for myself right now doesn’t make sense (I guess?). That’s why I’ve been wondering if maybe I should use the money for a rental property instead.

But honestly, I don’t really know much about this stuff. Do you think investing in real estate is a good idea in my situation? Or would you suggest something else I should be doing with this money while living in Japan?

I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!
