Hey everyone,
I’ll be in Japan for 2.5 weeks in February — starting with a week in Osaka, then a week in Okinawa, before flying to Taipei on the 23rd for 4 days.
I have most of my trip locked in (international flights from Australia → Japan. Then Taipei → Australia, plus all accommodation, and my flight from Osaka to Okinawa)
The last one I need to book is Okinawa → Taipei.
Turns out the date I picked (Monday the 23rd) is the Emperor’s Birthday, and prices are about 4x higher than any other week. Unfortunately, I can’t change dates since everything else is already booked and paid for.
So my questions are:
From anyone’s experience – public holiday dates like this, will flights ever drop closer to the date, or should I just lock something in now?
What’s everyone’s experience with Peach and Tigerair Taiwan as budget options? And how do EVA and China Airlines compare?
Since it’s only a 2-hour flight, I’m mainly looking for the best value once luggage is factored in.
Any advice or insight would be hugely appreciated — thanks so much!

All airlines are completely fine. The prices won’t drop from here. They’ll only go up.
Peach and other discount carriers are strict about carry on weight limits. EVA air is fine; I used them to Taipei and it was just a normal flight. They gave sandwiches. You have to pay for food and drinks on Peach.
