  1. I see no problem here

How do you contribute to the local economy if you don’t understand it or the regulations you work within?

  2. It should be stated that someone who is hired in a full time position and is proficient in Japanese can fulfill this requirement. So it’s not strictly the entrepreneur themselves needs to know Japanese. It probably is still a good idea to be proficient though

  3. So… they want to take jobs away from interpreters and translators as well as alienate foreign entrepreneurs, many of whom would have come to japan on government sponsored research scholarships?

    Yeah… what?

  4. so fuck anyone who wants to start a business here that went to any of those university courses taught in english, great.

might as well just close off the startup visa at this point. bunch of racist fucks.

  5. Now that the minimum capital is ¥30M, that’s a sufficient amount to hire a couple of Japanese employees.

  6. The minimum an investor should do. As a non-Japanese person with a basic knowledge of Japanese culture and psychology, I know that the vast majority of foreigners only have a superficial and mistaken understanding of Japanese culture thanks to pop culture. Having a deeper contact with the language could be the beginning of a solution for annoying tourists. In fact, basic knowledge of the language should be a minimum requirement for traveling to any country, and it should be necessary to have a visa for that country.

  7. Good this should be the minimum anywhere.

How utterly disrespectful can somebody be to move into a country and don’t bother to learn their language

  8. I love how much of a touchstone this is when it only applies to a rounding error amount of people: “41,600 individuals”
