I’ve lived in tokyo for 3 years and have been on a university medical leave for 9 months now. It’s time to start back university and i was accepted to the foreign university in Beppu on a scholarship making my tuition 32万 a year. My current tuition is paid by fafsa/loans and it fluctuates literally per semester how much fafsa will cover(without fafsa it would be well over 2 million yen/ year) first year in beppu will be the same as my tokyo apartment as we have to live in dorms the first 12 months. monthly rent: 52000 yen. my biggest worry is the transportation fee as absolutely nothing is in walking distance. everything will require bus and my university is on top of a mountain so i’m sure transportation fees will add up quickly. my first semester im planning on finding work (current part job in tokyo paying 1800yen/hour) but looking in countryside i’ll be closer to 1100 yen if lucky. could someone provide me insight? i have my tuition money in full for the beppu university which makes me feel very comfortable knowing i won’t have to depend on fafsa, it’s just the cost of everything else making me worry if it’ll be sustainable or not. could someone (especially a kyushu jin) give me some advice? i have 3 more years of university.
