Different last names on child’s passport

Hi everyone, I’d love some advice from people who’ve been through this.

I’m Japanese and my husband is Canadian. We’re expecting a baby and thinking about her future regarding nationality and names. We’d like her to have two passports (Canadian + Japanese). Our plan is:

Canadian passport: Jane Smith Japanese passport: Jane Takahashi (Smith)

The reason is I’d like her to carry my Japanese last name in Japan so that if she decides to live there in the future, it’ll be easier (for things like school life and avoiding issues with having a “foreign” name). Most of her life will be in Canada, though.

My big question is about travel logistics: If we book a round-trip ticket from Canada to Japan under “Jane Takahashi (Smith)” but her Canadian passport only says “Jane Smith,” will that cause issues when re-entering Canada? Or should the ticket always match the Canadian passport?

If anyone has gone through something similar with kids having different names/passports, I’d love to hear your experience.

Thanks so much!
