New parent here, and getting ready to take care of a newborn baby. I never really had any experience with babies in my home country, but after looking it up, i noticed there were a few big differences, and I was wondering how you dealt with it, and what you decided to do regarding the partner potentially disagreeing.
-
using q-tips to clean the ears. this is popular in Japan and the nurse told us to do it, but it is frowned upon in my country as a dangerous and unnecessary practice.
-
bathing every day (also with soap). In Japan, it is the standard to bath every day, and as far as i know, this includes soap every time as well. But from English research articles as well as most online opinions go, it seems that this invties dry and irritated skin, and giving babies a bath 1-3 times a week is fine, and shampoo 1-2 times a week is normal? I have heard that having a daily bath routine helps some babies fall asleep easier, but im worried about skin irritation.
-
tying into number 2, using lotion after a bath is recommended. i think lotion is somewhat popular in my country as well, but combine that with a daily bath, and it seems like we would be going through lotion a lot, and the baby would basically have lotion on all the time. is that normal?

if anyone has any other differences like this that came up, feel free to add. i don't want to suddenly butt into my partner's baby care ideas for no reason other than me finding it on the internet, but i think if there is a scientifically demonstrated benefit to doing something a certain way, i want her to at least consider reasonable options other than what the nurses have been saying.
