Hello everyone, this will be my first time in Japan, and I picked January because I like cool weather, long nights, and when things aren't too crowded 🙂 Here's what I was thinking of…
- Tokyo: 3 nights (14-17 Jan)
- Takayama: 2 nights (17-19 Jan)
- Kyoto: 3 nights (19-22 Jan)
- Kiso Valley / Suwa? Hakone? Magome? 2 nights (22-24 Jan)
- Tokyo: 3 nights (24-27 Jan)
I don't want to rush too much. The first 3 nights in Tokyo are partially just to acclimatise (flying in from Helsinki). I read many good things here about Takayama. Kyoto speaks for itself.
What I cannot make my mind up about is: Where to go between Kyoto and Tokyo? I would prefer something very relaxing, slow-living, not hectic. A place to enjoy onsen, go for (snowy) walks, etc.
What do you think of my itinerary, and where would you recommend me to spend a night or two between Kyoto and Tokyo?. Many thanks in advance! 🙂

Following this… I will be there around the same dates with similar schedule
Back then I filled the gap by going to nara to enjoy the deer. I love animals like that so it was a fun experience that I’d happily would do again. Not everyone would like it though but just floating an idea
