At New Chitose Airport, three individuals, including Ryo Moroyu, a restaurant owner from Niseko, Hokkaido, were arrested and charged with importing cannabis seeds. The seeds, packaged stylishly, were found hidden in the pocket of swimwear within a suitcase during an immigration inspection aided by a drug-sniffing dog.
The three suspects allegedly conspired to import 37 viable cannabis seeds from Thailand on June 5. While their exact plea regarding the charges remains unclear, they reportedly stated that they purchased 40 seeds for approximately 47,000 yen from a cannabis shop. The arrests were made under suspicion of violating laws regulating the cultivation of cannabis plants.
