Upstairs neighbour complaining that the smell from my cooking is too “spicy”

Yesterday at 12PM, my upstairs neighbour knocked on my door to tell me that the smell from my cooking is annoying because the smell is too “spicy”. He has recently moved in and my life has slowly gotten more and more annoying. The guy has a habit of constantly banging on his floor which is right on top of me whenever i watch something on my laptop with the volume turned a bit up. And then he goes and watches TV all night which I have to sleep through.

I’m not a confrontational person so I really haven’t done anything about him yet. But yesterday’s incident just really pissed me off, like fine i can be quieter but now I can’t even cook anymore? Is there something I can do about him without being confrontational?
