3 week itinerary | Nagano – Kanazawa – Osaka – Onomichi – Fukuoka – Tokio

Hello!

This will be my second trip to japan (first one was in 2018 as a group travel), so in case your wondering about some specific locations missing (e.g. Kyoto, Hiroshima, Miyajima etc.), i was most likely already there.

I will be arriving around 5pm on october 24th in Narita, send my luggage to Osaka and try to survive till bed time (hotel is also in Narita, near the Airport).

Nagano – 2 days (saturday 25th – monday 27th)

  • Zenko-ji

Train takes like 3h from Narita -> Nagano and i guess only Zenko-ji is enough for the first day? Anything else that is worth it?

Matsumoto on 26th

  • Matsumoto Castle
  • Matsumoto Museum of Art
  • Gofuku-ji (maybe)

Kanazawa – 2 days (monday 27th – wednesday 29th)

  • Kenroku-en Garden
  • Kanazawa Castle

Toyama on 28th

  • Glass art museum
  • Toyama castle

Osaka – 3 days (wednesday 29th – saturday 1st november)

  • Osaka castle
  • Nipponbashi Denden Town
  • Umeda Sky Building + Koji Kinutani Tenku Art Museum
  • Katsuo-ji + Minoh Falls
  • Kobe day trip? Worth it?

I have no real order in Osaka, i guess will do the castle when i arrive from Kanazawa, maybe a day trip to Kobe and one day will be chilling + shopping and sth. else from the list. I usually decide those things on the fly and change plans too.

Also will be sending my luggage from here to Fukuoka.

Okayama / Kurashiki – 2 days (saturday 1st november – monday 3rd)

  • Kibiji Bicycle Path –> any recommended rental shops?
  • Okayama castle & garden
  • Bikan quartar Kurashiki

My hotel is in Kurashiki, so i guess the bikan quartar first makes sense and the cycle path + castle / garden on the next full day is better? Or is this too much?

Onomichi – 2 days (monday 3rd – wednesday 5th)

I reserved a bike for tuesday, nothing really planned for monday, when i arrive..i guess just walking around and explore a little bit. So for the bike day, i can´t return it at the last station on this day (i think it was like this on both tuesday and wednesday).

If i have to return to Onomichi on the same day, any route that makes most sense for me? Otherwise i would just stop at half of the normal shimanami kaido route.

Fukuoka – 4 days (wednesday 5th – sunday 9th)

  • Seaside park (maybe)
  • Fukuoka castle
  • Nagasaki

So originally i planned quite a few teamLabs visits (Fukuoka + Tokyo), but after looking into it a bit more and the fact that i have photosensitive epilepsy, i decided against it. Soo..yeah, anything else that is a "must do" in or near Fukuoka?

I will be flying back to Tokyo on the 9th incl. luggage.

Tokyo – 4 days (sunday 9th – thursday 13th)

  • Shibuya Sky
  • Amiami Figure Tower
  • Radio Kaikan
  • Mito garden
  • Kamakura
  • Kawagoe / Kashiya Yokocho

No real order of things again, my original plan for the whole vacation was to visit all three famous gardens + some castles and doing the cycle tour in Onomichi (or at least some of it).

On the 13th im going back to Narita, chill the day and fly back on 14th november.

Questions

  • JR Pass for 3 weeks is not worth it, but the Hokuriku Arch Pass should be for the beginning?
  • Do i need anything else beside a Suica Card (will get it on my iPhone) + the Arch Pass? Is any other Pass woth it for my itinerary? Is was thinking about the one for Fukuoka region..but i guess i would need way more routes than only Fukuoka – Nagasaki and back
  • Are taxis expensive in japan and would the GoTaxi App be enough to come around?
  • Is Google Maps the go to for public travel routes? i´m really bad with coordination inside these big stations
  • In case i miss a Shinkansen that is not part of any kind of pass, is the ticket i booked valid for the next train too? There are two different kinds of tickets in germany..for the cheaper one, it´s binded by the one slot you booked for.

Thanks in advance! 🙂
