TL;DR On Sept 25, Chiba prefectural board of education disclosed the settlement plan with a 27 year old woman concerning power harassment case at a Keiyo High school in Chiba while she was a teacher trainee there in year 2020.
The supervising male teacher verbally abused her saying, “It’s because of people like you that we have so many useless teachers” and kicked a trash can that struck her ankle. The woman quit her training after five days. After graduating university, she was diagnosed with depression and ended up resigning from a job she held.
She sued in November 2023, seeking 10.2 million yen for medical costs and other damages, but the Chiba District Court proposed a settlement of 31,247,431 yen, including compensation for her inability to work over the next ten years. The settlement is expected to be finalized in late October. The prefecture intends to seek reimbursement from the supervising teacher.
