Japanese student visa issue

Hey! I am an American that is currently a fourth year at a university in Tokyo. I am in my seventh semester but for my sixth and seventh semester I am studying abroad in Taiwan. My Japanese student visa expires December 1st but my program in Taiwan ends right before Christmas. I need to renew my visa in the next two months so I emailed the place in Taiwan for getting a Japanese visa but they told me that due to the fact that I have a Japanese Identity card, I can only renew it in Japan. I am worried due to the fact that I have to leave to renew it mid semester so I have a few questions.

  1. Typically how long does it take to get back the renewed student visa?
  2. Is it possible to mail in the paperwork/passport and have them mail it back to me?
  3. I’ve seen different sites say different materials are required to be submitted, what did you have to submit?
  4. If I am showing that a parent is financially supporting me, is a lot of information required to show proof?

Thank you so much!

Sorry for the lengthy question and wretched grammar haha
