Is the Tokyo Gas Enerfarm system worth it?

If you don't know what the Enefarm system is, it uses gas to generate some electricity. Since the electricity is generated at your house, it eliminates the loss of transferring the electricity to your house, leading to energy savings and lower electric bills. The system was developed around 2013-2014, I think.

I just bought a house and it came with the Enefarm system. The maintenance program ended in June, and the cost to replace it with a new system will be around 1.5 million yen. There are government subsidies which will reduce the cost to 1.1 million yen. Tokyo Gas told me if I want to remove the system outside my house and convert to just a boiler system (there are two large mechanical units that take up a lot of space), it will cost 500,000 yen! So if you calculate the energy savings (maybe a 20% reduction in electric bill per month), it will only cost me maybe 400,000-600,000 yen to install a new system.

But I compared my electric bill from August 2024 (with the system working) to my August 2025 bill, and I only see it 8% higher! And this summer was hotter than last year's.

Furthermore, Toshiba used to market an Enefarm-type system, and they quit the market in 2019 or so. So I'm wondering whether the technology is bogus. Does anybody else use the Enefarm system at their house and did you find it was worth it to reduce your electric bill?
