Starting in 2026, Agency for Children and Families plans to subsidize up to 200,000 yen to women who wants egg freezing in preparation for future pregnancy.
Frozen egg can be thawed later and used for in vitro fertilization (IVF). By freezing eggs at a younger age pregnancy chances may be improved. Egg and freezing session typically costs several hundred thousand yen.
The program is initially planned to be offered 10 prefectures at designated medical facilities.
The agency has budgeted 1 billion yen for this probject.
