Just a quick Post-Japan thread. What an amazing country to visit. I'm absolutely in love with Japan and just got back yesterday after 14 days. I've read multiple of these "Post Japan" threads but found some things missing so I'll add them here.
Language:
The language is tough, and the further you go from Tokyo, less people know english. A translater app goes a long way but also practice a few phrases like
… wa doko desu ka? = Where is …. (Example: Sandwichu wa doko desu ka? = Where are the sandwiches.
… Futatsu, ku da sai = two … Please. Replace futatsu with "hitatsu" if you only want one etc.
Learn a few useful phrases like this. If you are looking for something you don't know what is called. Get a picture on your phone and point an say either "kono wa arimasu ka"(do you have this?) or kono wa doko desu ka (where is this?).
eSim:
Prepare eSim beforehand. I used Airalo which worked perfectly for my use. I activated it before leaving Copenhagen and once you hit Japan and turn off flight mode it works perfectly. My friend bought an eSim on Haneda airport and struggled a lot to get it to work. I recommend preparing beforehand.
Fiber:
Japan constipation is real. The food is very low in fiber and if you do like me and eat nothing but delicious ramen, yakitori, rice and meat it will inevitably make you constipated. In fact they have a special Coca Cola Zero Plus(it has white labels) that contain 5g dietary fiber because of this exact reason. Eat a banana or drink one of these bottles daily. You'll be fine.
