Written prescription and written doctor’s note for any medications?

I keep finding different responses or requirements, but if I'm taking any medication with me to Japan, is a paper prescription good enough with it or do I also need like a written doctor's note for the prescription as well? I didn't know how much is involved or approved for bringing medications to Japan. Thanks so much in advance!
