Kyoto & Narra, Tour or DIY?

Hello! It’s my family’s first time in Japan. We’re planning to do a day trip to Kyoto & Narra. Would you recommend Day Tour or DIY? Which one is cheaper and may I know if it’s easy to navigate Kyoto & Narra if we do DIY? Thank you!

  1. Comfort level.

The vast majority of people, especially on this sub, do DIY. Google Maps guides you to where you want to go.

Are you trying to do both Kyoto and Nara on the same day? I’d advise against that.

I assume day trip from Osaka?

  2. You could rush through both Nara and Kyoto on the same day, sure. But you’ll only see very little of both, and that’s rather a shame and kinda negates the experience. Both cities are easy to get to and navigate on your own, and *of course* that’s going to be cheaper than hiring someone for a guided tour.

Going Osaka – Kyoto attractions – Nara park – Osaka will take somewhere close to 6h of transportation by itself already. If you split your time evenly, you can have 3-4 hours or so in each city if you get up early and get back to your hotel somewhat late.

It’s… *doable*, if you *really* want to check that of your list. But it doesn’t sound very enjoyable.

  3. Hello! The only places we wanna see in Kyoto & Nara is the Nara Park, Arashiyama & Fushimi Inari…
