What is it like making female friends as a female expat in Japan? What are your experiences? Are Japanese people a girls’ girl?
And if you’re someone who’s east asian/SE asian or in the most respectful way as possible “Japanese passing”, how are your experiences differ to your western looking friends when it comes to interacting with Japanese people or making friends.
For context Im a first year university student(19F), Im not in an exchange program or English course or anything. My class if full of Japanese people and 2 Chinese students. Im Asian looking and speak somewhat fluent Japanese with no accent. I have a hard time making friends even without the language barrier. I am a naturally social person but after coming here and adapting to the “air”, I had become so shy and nervous talking to Japanese people. I also find that i have so much less benefit of the doubt from Japanese people because i dont “look” foreign enough and i dont have an accent when i speak😅
I would love to hear your experiences as an Asian expat. And if you have any tips on talking to Japanese girls i would love to hear it too!
Thank you for reading ☺️
