I land in Tokyo in less than 2 weeks. Itinerary is 90% finished with hotels and omakase booked etc. However, I'm in two minds about changing one of my days and would love to hear opinions from other users.
Current plan:
Tokyo 2 nights
Kyoto 3 nights
Osaka 3 nights
Hakone 1 night
Tokyo 5 nights
The 3rd and final day in Osaka (before moving to Hakone for ryokan + onsen), is currently down as a full day trip to Hiroshima + Miyajima. This would be a 7am Shinkansen there and a late one back, roughly covering the following:
Morning
Peace Park ferry to Miyajima
Itsukushima
Daisho
Ropeway up
Misen Hondo + Reikado
Afternoon
Ropeway down
Ferry to Peace Park
Memorials + Museum
A-Bomb Dome
Of course grabbing some Okonomiyaki along the way.
I know it's a long day, likely draining, but we have no other day trips with long travel planned. I also know it's better to stay overnight and split Hiroshima + Miyajima. However, Hiroshima is one of the cities I'm most looking forward to seeing. Furthermore, the following day would be spent relaxing in a private onsen, so a draining day doesn't really bother me.
The alternative is a trip to Nara, but I'm not sure if there is enough to make a full day out of it?
I'm expecting for the majority of responses to be against Hiroshima for the reasons I've given, but either way I'm open to feedback!
Thank you.
