年金手帳 does everyone get it?

I started my studies in Japan 2 years ago and immediately applied for pension payments exemption. I now graduated and will start working this month. Employer ask me for a copy of pension book. But i’m pretty sure that i’ve never received it. Did I miss something? Would be grateful for your help!
