Government to support domestic AI development, providing training data, and funding to lessen too much dependence on US and China

The government is embarking on the development of domestically produced artificial intelligence (AI) based on domestic data and technology. The United States and China are far ahead in the development of generative AI, which automatically generates sentences and other information, but relying on overseas products is seen as a security issue, as it could lead to data leaks overseas and the spread of misinformation about Japan. The government will support the development of AI by providing Japanese companies with development resources such as training data, with the aim of establishing a highly reliable domestic AI.
