Sorry for this kinda weird situation. I’m a Chinese, started working at this small Japanese company back in April. They told me I’d be doing overseas sales, but turns out they don’t actually have any overseas business at all — so they just dumped me in one of their shops in Saga. Basically I’m a retail worker now.
Life here is rough. The locals are pretty xenophobic underneath (especially toward Chinese or Koreans), and I haven’t met a single other foreigner in this town. I’m dying to move to a bigger city where I can actually make friends and use my English or Chinese for something useful.
Problem is, I’ve only got like half a year of work experience, and Japan’s job market is super rigid. I'm willing to wait for another 6-12 months or so but probably no more.
For context, I’ve got a MA degree at a Japanese university, JLPT N1, a (very ironic) 5-year 高度人材 visa, speak business-level Japanese, near-native English, and native Chinese. I’ve tried basically every job site and recruiter out there — most are useless.
Planning to take the TOEIC this month too, since apparently Japan only believes you’re good at English if you have a test score or were born westerner 🙃
Has anyone been in a similar situation or managed to switch jobs early on in Japan, though situation might vary very much for a Chinese?
Thank you guys for advance.
