I live in Tokyo and I bought a car last month. I cannot register it yet because there is no parking near my apartment that fits the car. I arranged with the dealer to keep it until November. My plan was to move to a new apartment with parking from November 1st while looking for land to build a house. Now circumstances changed and I made an offer for a second hand house. The move in date will be in December. I am weighing my options for getting the car before the move in date.
One option I can think of right now is to register myself at my girlfriend's parents house in Niigata. They are fine with that. Is it possible to register this as a second residence and still keep my juminhyo in Tokyo? In this case will I be able to get a parking certificate or it needs to be near my main residence? I am trying to avoid changing my main address for just 2 months. I assume it will be a pain with the taxes, work, banks etc. After I move in the new house, I will register the car in Tokyo. I guess it's gonna cost something but I don't have any other options as it seems now.
