So, there is this trend in the health/minimalism community to sleep on the floor, and many do in fact do so, but on a tatami/futon.
The claim is pretty much that its better for your body, however, it seems to me, that the trend in Japan is quite the opposite! Tatamis are being thrown out because of the high maintenance and western style beds are very much preferred.
What are your thoughts on this? Specifically, what do you think about the health claims of sleeping on tatami/futon vs western beds?

I much prefer Western beds. Perhaps I’m biased due to growing up with them, but I’ve never found futons to be particularly comfortable. I don’t even have a tatami room.
