I dislike reading in 縦読み

I’m fine with it in manga because the text is contained within a circle or a box. The sentences come in small, bitable chunks.

But I don’t like it as much when reading a novel. The pages are longer, and I have to move my eyes up and down – the opposite of what I’ve been doing for over half my life.

Of course I’m able to get accustomed to reading vertically. It’s not like I won’t buy any books based on text layout. I really love reading Japanese literature on paper.

I just prefer reading horizontally. Maybe my American brain is beyond saving. I dunno. If there’s the option to flip the text to 横読み on my kindle I always do it. And then I’m able to read noticeably faster.

How do y’all feel about it?
