Suggestions for power saving ways to beat the cold this coming winter.

Hello everyone,
This is going to be my first winter in Japan so I'm not sure what to expect. Do you guys have any tips or suggestions for beating the cold without breaking my bank?
I used to use electric blankets back home instead of turning on the heater. Any recommendations for electric blankets and where to get them here would also be helpful. Thanks in advance guys.
