I’m a Vietnamese living in Japan on a regular 5-year visa (not permanent). My sister’s son in Vietnam has been very sick since he was born, he has a serious skin condition that hasn’t improved, no matter what we’ve tried. Over the years, we’ve taken him to many hospitals and even some of the best doctors in Vietnam, but nothing seems to help.
I’ve been thinking about bringing him to Japan for treatment, but the costs for foreigners are incredibly high, and honestly, we can’t afford it. That made me wonder if it would be possible to adopt him so that he could be included under my Japanese health insurance and get the care he needs.
I know adoption isn’t something to take lightly, and from an ethical point of view, I’m really torn. My only goal is to help him, but I also don’t want to do anything dishonest or unfair to the system.
Has anyone ever heard of a situation like this? I’d really appreciate any advice or insight, legal or ethical, from anyone who’s familiar with this kind of thing. Thank you…
