I knocked a woman and her child off her bicycle the other day. I was riding a bicycle too. Why? Because as I was approaching a crossing and she was coming over it in the opposite direction, she decided at the last moment to make a sharp right turn directly into my path.
I could brake ‘in time’, but it was too sudden and I went past the handlebars and straight into her. I guess I could’ve tried leaving more space on my approach or approaching more slowly, but I still can’t believe a person would make a turn like that. It was nighttime, but my light was on. A normal, alert person would’ve been able to see that someone was coming. Her kid (probably about 3-4 years old) wasn’t strapped into the seat either, so he spilled out when the bicycle tipped over.
Didn’t seem like they were injured, and the kid wasn’t quite crying in the moment. I probably came off worst, with scraped knees.

Before anyone comments on me being on the sidewalk, I do mostly ride on the road, though not near highway off-ramps when there’s no actual space for bicycles (just that worthless painted bicycle on the ground) and a lot of traffic. I was on the road a couple of minutes earlier and went back on the road right after this crossing. Though clearly riding with cars might be safer with riders like this mother around.
Me and s couple of others missed not one, but two trains this morning cause a group of tourists were blocking the ticket machines.
First of all, why use all three machines when you are a group travelling together that could just buy tickets from one?
Secondly, the Tokyo Metro ticket machines are so straightforward even a child can operate them. You either enter one of the fixed fees or you search for a station name. Yet it somehow take ages for these people to buy…
Autumn was only two weeks ahhhh! I need to get my thicc blankets out soon… Also the ride to/from office in the morning is cold. Not really a complain, I like cold weather more than hot. Guess I have to take out the winter pants too…
Is there any country where the temps all year round are between 15c and 25c?
Why do people keep deleting their posts. Like they get the information they want then delete. It means the next person who comes along who might have actually searched instead of asking the exact same question won’t be able to search they’ll ask the exact same question.
Oh who am I kidding, nobody searches…
Company hired a guy to be the “Workplace Efficiency” Manager.
He quit after talking to everyone in the company about how inefficient a certain person was (Foreign staff who has been at the company longer than anyone except the CEO). Literally everyone had the same complaint.
The CEO managed to bring the guy back after a week, but I have zero hope anything will change.
At least my work isn’t affected by that person, but for everyone who is… sucks to be them.
my mother in law.

1 – it’s a beautiful, sunny day outside. The warehouse is fine, I’m in a tshirt and feel warm. so why the fuck is the fucking heater on in the fucking office/tea room?
2 – it’s a beautiful, sunny day outside and I’m at fucking work.
3 – gotta renew my passport. That’s 600 dollarydoos I need to part with. Fuck that shit.
no motivation for work, or for job change either. I’m trying to get myself moved to a new project, but I’m the only senior member left on the current project, so not finding a new job looks like the only way out.
I really need to apply to way more companies.
I came very close to being one of the people in the dashcam videos who gets road rage, cuts off a vehicle, gets out and starts threatening the other driver on the weekend.
There’s a 4km stretch of road that not that many people use from a local shopping mall that takes me back to my home. The speed limit there is 40 and the flow of traffic tends to be a little over 50km/h. It’s not that it’s quiet or anything but the majority of people take another route so it just experiences some very light traffic. Anyways, we got out of the shopping mall but not before having one of the mall shuttle buses get out before us. No big deal on any other day of the week except for the fact the guy literally did between 20 and 25 km/h the entire 4 km stretch. Not due to traffic or any other reason. I was directly behind the guy and a rather huge line of traffic formed behind me. No opportunities to pass or get past him the entire way. Even my wife who is rather carefree and easy going started to get upset.
I hope it’s just the fast change in weather, but woah I feel very low this week.
There are very few things I hate more than slowing down on my bicycle to give space to pedestrians and some absolute douchecanoe comes blasting into the space on their electric mamachari *without even looking* because they can’t be arsed to wait 2 seconds to make sure they don’t kill someone.
Also how the fuck did we jump from summer to winter?!?!
have to work closely with a younger coworker to teach them stuff and they have the stankiest, foulest breath ever (same person I’ve probably complained about here at least three times by now).
was looking forward to overnight camping this weekend, but looks like enough rain in our area that the tent will get fully soaked, so it’s a no-go. one of the sites we were considering has a very cute, sweet doggo that I was looking forward to hanging out with again. 🙁
and an extremely petty complaint: was thinking of splurging on a very high-end eyeshadow palette, ofc a holiday-limited edition, that would probably perfectly fit my odd skin tone… I received the announcement yesterday, and it’s sold out like maybe 24 hours later. well, 10,000 yen for five eyeshadow shades seemed stupid to me anyway… *sniff*
It’s so damn dark in the morning now on these cloudy rainy days.
Oh boy, I’ve got a couple:
* Finally decided to start using NISA, signed up with the Rakuten broker thing. There’s like five different layers of verifications, passwords being sent by mail, and my patience is wearing thin, lol. I know it’s a one and done thing, but sheesh, it’s so inefficient.
* I more or less know that my job will not be renewed in 5 months or so, so the stress of job changing begins again.
* Got back into cosplay after a long time, bought an eye watering amount of materials and tools, and I think I picked an overly complex one, because I’m like a third of the way in and I’m sick to death of it already, lol. I think my home just doesn’t have enough space for large scale crafts like this, everything becomes cramped and uncomfortable, and things refuse to just work the first time.
EDIT: curious as to why this was downvoted, huh.
Searching for clothes on Mercari with 目立った傷や汚れなし tagged and I keep seeing posts with obvious stains.
I wish people would stop wasting everyone’s time.
Why is throwing away appliances such a pain in the ass???? My microwave broke recently (still have to get another one but thats another can of worms) and apparently in my city I gotta go to the city hall, pay some money for a sticker and do some more stuff. Why cant it be just a monthly pickup like it is for cardboard boxes in my city ahhhhhh.
Had to wait 2.5 hours for for a 10 second visit with the doctor, during which she said 「問題ないよ」 and handed me the results of my free blood test.
Now been waiting 20 minutes to check out even though I don’t need to pay anything.
It 1:42. I’m very hangry.
Just found out that the only supermarket within walking distance to my house went out of business.
It’s crazy because I was just there this weekend and nothing was out of the ordinary. Shelfs were fully stocked, ZERO indication that they were shutting down.
So I was SHOCKED when I stopped by just now to find them tearing down the building. I thought maybe they were just getting ready to renovate, but they’ve completely disappeared off Google Maps and when you Google the store, it comes up as “permanently closed.” 🙁
I didn’t do most of my shopping there anyways, but it was nice not having to get in the car and drive across town when I would just need 1 or 2 things.
It’s finally cold, so why do I still have to deal with mosquitoes?
– failed 学科試験 again
– someone tried to scam me via WhatsApp
– am very broke
– general frustration at small things in life/my temperament
I need to finally decide and get checked for adhd or whatever I may have, it’s starting to affect my life a bit too much.
I don’t know if age, or living most of my life in Japanese (I’m pretty good at it, but I have some holes in it), but I feel it’s worsening.
If I’m doing something that is routine I’m extremely efficient, but if I do something new I feel like an idiot.
I struggle focusing when I’m doing something that I’m not too interesting into.
My mind just wanders away to random shit and I end up losing chunk of conversations because of it, no matter the language.
If anyone has any advice I’d appreciate. Also, I live in Osaka, if there’s any recommendation for specific clinics (I’m OK with Japanese speaking only but English may be better if there’s the possibility).
I can’t figure out who I need to contact to get bicycle parking in my building. I’ve called three or four different people and the last thing I was told was that I need to talk to the owner, but I don’t even know how to contact them.
A few weeks ago r/hiroshima was taken over by some mod – it’s his now. It’s an endless stream of rage bait and brain rot.
I’ve been banned along with a few others.
In the grand scheme of things it’s not worth mention – but it does make me a little sad to see such a small and quiet part of the internet be taken without recourse.
しょうがない 🤷
Why some Japanese are so mental about some privacy stuffs such as name, address etc… ?

I made a mistake by not properly telling my last day in the office when I handed the resignation notice.
I told boss about my last day in the office. He was pissed at me. He seems to expect me to finish another task before leaving. To finish that task properly, my last day would be around the end of November and I will lose about 20 days of PTO. There is no way that I will stay until the end of the November.
Now, he is pressuring me to do proper hand over by wanting me to report progress every day. You don’t have to pressure me. I chose the last day in the office this late because I want to do proper handover. In addition, I got no handover for tasks I have been doing so far. I have to figure out everything on my own. I don’t remember people who quitted before me did any proper handover. Your management is so bad that it will be very problematic if one of current workers got to take a long break due to accidents or health problems.
