Tokyo court orders man to pay for harassing co-worker, attaching ‘chan’ suffix to name

The Tokyo District Court ruled on Oct. 23 that a Sagawa Express Co. employee harassed a younger female colleague and ordered him to pay her 220,000 yen (around $1,440) in compensation.

The ruling pointed out that "chan" is usually used to address a child, one's romantic partner or someone else with whom one has an intimate relationship, but the plaintiff and the defendant were merely colleagues.
