Japan’s core consumer prices in September rise 2.9% on energy, food costs

Prices for food, excluding fresh items, gained 7.6 percent, compared with an 8.0 percent increase in August, as items such as chocolate, chicken and eggs became more expensive.

Rice prices increased 49.2 percent, slowing for the fourth straight month after climbing 101.7 percent in May.
